Care and maintenance![]()
- Wooden speargun body
Our project choices and the quality of the materials and of the craftsmanship we use, , make the Totemsub spearguns very long lasting and heavy-duty proof. The wood essences we use are marine grade, so that even a prolongued contact with sea water with no protection could seriously damage the wood. However, we give our spearguns a serious surface protection coating with marine epoxy and polyurethane varnish. The every day care is just a rinse with fresh water. No hurry to intervene on small scratches. once an year, we suggest all the speargun is inspected, particularly in the parts that are not usually accessible, like the trigger mech hole, or the areas around the pins and screws. We supply a complete care and maintenance kit, and we also support our customers offering a complete refurbishment of the used spearguns at a very reasonable price. Our project choices and the quality of the materials and of the craftsmanship we use, , make the Totemsub spearguns very long lasting and heavy-duty proof. - Wishbones:
The standard Dyneema wishbones that rig our spearguns present a lot of advantages over articulated ones. They need to be replaced when they show signs of tear and wear. The replacing process, very easy and quick to accomplish, is shown here.
The metal articulated wishbones should be replaced when they show signs of wear. It can be easily done following this procedure.
- Power bands:
Natural latex will gradually loose its mechanical properties, due to the action of UV rays, oxygene, mechanical cycles of work. Power bands are the engine of our speargun, so they need to be replaced as soon as they do not supply the requested power. Their life depends on many factor, but we can say they should be replaced once in a year even if they were used just a little or at all, and whenever small signs of tear appear, typically close to where the bands are tied with the "constrictor knot". To replace an old power band, you must first remove it, untying the flag knot ot the dyneema terminal. Then, you need to insert one head of the new band into the hole in the muzzle, and tie with a new flag knot the new dyneema terminal and the buttonhole coming out of the power band head, as described here
- Trigger mech
Our trigger mech is entirely steel made. So, a quick rinse in fresh water at the end of the fishing day will be enough.
- Reels
Our reels are made of marine grade materials. They only need to be rinsed in fresh water at the end of the fishing day. In case you'd want to disassemble the reel to proceed with a deeper cleaning and greasing process, it's important, when reassembling the parts, to apply a drop of glue before fitting the small screw on the head of the friction knob.
